Unity Technologies vs 37signals LLC: Free Credits, Pricing & Eligibility Compared (2026)

Both Unity Technologies and 37signals LLC offer 100% free software access for students and classrooms, but they serve completely different needs. Unity provides a full Unity Pro Editor license worth over $2,000 for game developers, while 37signals provides free classroom project management without requiring a credit card. Here is how their free academic tiers compare.

Unity Technologies vs 37signals Student Offer Breakdown

Choosing between Unity Technologies and 37signals comes down to whether you are building interactive 3D software or organizing classroom work. Both options eliminate the normal subscription fees for enrolled students.

Software Value and Pro Entitlements

The Unity Student Plan gives eligible creators access to the Unity Pro Editor at $0 cost. It includes extra developer tools like Odin Inspector, Odin Validator, a Synty asset bundle, and Unity Cloud services. You can learn more about developer credits on our Unity Technologies page.

37signals offers free access to its productivity tools for educational environments. Rather than giving a temporary trial or a restricted demo, 37signals ensures students and teachers can manage tasks without hitting paywalls. Check out our 37signals LLC overview for additional details.

Eligibility Criteria and Hidden Renewal Traps

While both companies offer free access, their verification rules and renewal schedules differ significantly. Understanding these constraints prevents sudden service interruptions.

Unity Verification and Strict Limits

Unity requires students to be at least 16 years old and actively enrolled at an accredited secondary or post-secondary school earning academic credit. Verification is handled by SheerID, so you must provide valid school documentation or a recognized student email address during checkout.

Unity sets strict revenue limits on its student tier. If your commercial projects earn or raise more than $1,000,000 USD in a 12-month period, you must upgrade to a commercial Pro or Enterprise agreement. Regional restrictions also apply, excluding regions like Mainland China, Macau, Iran, Syria, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

• Must be 16+ years old and currently enrolled in accredited courses.
• Re-verify via SheerID every 12 months up to 60 days before license expiration.
• Commercial income capped at $1,000,000 USD over the previous 12 months.

37signals Rules and No-Card Guarantee

37signals takes a frictionless approach to academic access. The standout feature of their student offer is that no credit card is ever requested upon sign-up. This completely eliminates the risk of an unexpected auto-renewal charge when a semester ends.

The setup is designed for individual students and full classroom environments. Teachers can onboard entire courses without submitting procurement paperwork or securing departmental credit cards.

1. Sign up for the educational access tier directly inside the app.
2. Confirm student or teacher status without entering card billing details.
3. Maintain uninterrupted access throughout the active course duration.
